In reaction to allegations of fraudulent recruitment leveled against
it, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has come out to vehemently deny the
accusations. The ministry said it wished to inform the public that it
was not involved in employment of its staff as that responsibility fell
on the Federal Civil Service Commission.
The ministry therefore said, “asking applicants to buy scratch cards
and pay hundreds of thousands of naira for non-existent jobs does not
arise… The new officers employed into the Ministry by the Federal Civil
Service Commission have only just assumed duties, having completed a
one-week long induction and orientation programme organized by the
ministry, in line with extant practice.
“In informing and educating the public on government and governance,
media organizations must strive to do their research assiduously before
going public with their opinions… Not doing so constitutes a great
disservice to their own credibility and the sacred duty of nation
building, to which the fourth estate of realm, is a partner.”
The ministry had been fingered as engaging in illegal act of
requesting job seekers to buy scratch cards before they could gain
online access to fill their application forms by a newspaper editorial.
