A wad of gum, rumored to be the last piece of gum ever chewed by legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, has sold on eBay according to The Metro. We had earlier reported the story about how a fan at West Bromwich Albion’s Hawthorns stadium (recovereded the said gum). The listing has gone offline, and the reported sum will be donated to the MU Foundation.

Manchester United manager has reportedly sold for over $600,000( N94 Million).Fergie, who was renowned for his chewing on the sidelines, oversaw the Red Devils' last EPL game of the season yesterday, after 26 years at the helm of the club. As he was celebrating his side's dramatic 5-5 draw with West Bromwich Albion, a fan laid claim to the bizarre souvenir and immediately offered it for auction on eBay, in a custom-made case.The item description read:
“Used chewing gum: RARE. Recovered from The Hawthorns. Clear perspex/wooden case. Unofficial merchandise, rumoured to belong to Sir Alex. After 1,500 games of intense chewing as manager of Man Utd, here lies Fegie’s last piece of chewing gum. All proceeds go to the MU Foundation charity. Happy bidding.”
British newspaper The Metro has reported that the item sold for $608,000 overnight. The Manchester United Foundation helps disadvantaged youth in the Manchester area. Reports of the sale came as Ferguson headed into retirement with another gong - the Premier League manager of the year award.
Ferguson picked up the League Manager Association's honour on Monday.
At the reception the 71-year-old said he was relieved celebrations to mark his retirement were over.
"It has been overwhelming," he told the awards dinner in London 24 hours after his last match in charge of United, Sunday's 5-5 draw at West Brom.
"The club has been fantastic and congratulations to West Brom with the way they handled yesterday.
"In a way I am glad it is all over now - because it has been a very hard week.
"I think (West Brom manager) Steve Clarke should get an award because anyone who scores five against United deserves it."
